Trumpeter Thomas Marriott
Trumpeter Thomas Marriott is one of the most exciting musicians to emerge on the national jazz scene in more than a decade. The five-time Earshot Golden Ear award winner is a skilled instrumentalist, composer and producer, and is always seeking to expand the boundaries of jazz music in all its forms. The Seattle native is featured on more than 50 recordings with musicians of all genres and styles. His latest album, "Flexicon," was released in April 2009.
Chase Family 4th at Lake Union

The annual event features the Chase Playfield, a wide menu of food offerings and a lakeside beer garden for those 21 and over. This year’s event will also feature Sound Wave, the official band of the Seattle Sounders FC, and a performance of the National Anthem by the School of Rock: Northwest All-Stars. The day-long event culminates at approximately 10pm with the highly-anticipated, world-class fireworks display set within the natural amphitheater of Lake Union.

KPLU presents Kind of Blue@50: Jimmy Cobb's So What Band at JazzFest in Victoria

“Kind of perfect” is the universal assessment of “Kind of Blue,” the Miles Davis masterwork from 1959 that has lost none of its power to captivate and inspire. As the only surviving musician from that stellar session, drummer Jimmy Cobb is touring to memorialize “Kind of Blue” on its 50th anniversary. Aside from doing interpretations of the album’s five brilliant songs, Cobb and his super group will do classics by Coltrane, “Cannonball” Adderley and other jazz icons of the era.

Sixties Chicks is a musical mosaic of the singers and songwriters who gave a female voice to an era of social and political transformation. From teen longing for lost love to the full grown musical statements of liberation, these were the women America listened to. While the times took women from the prom to the freedom march, singer-songwriters like Lesley Gore, Carole King and Joni Mitchell told the story. Girl groups like The Supremes, The Shirelles and The Marvelettes set the tempo.
