VA Promises More Changes at Marion Hospital
(2009-11-04)
(wsiu) - Illinois U.S. Senator Dick Durbin says the Department of Veterans Affairs will work for further improvements at the Marion VA Medical Center.

Durbin, Governor Pat Quinn as well as southern Illinois Congressmen Jerry Costello and John Shimkus met today (Wed) in Washington D.C. with VA Secretary Eric Shinseki (shin-SECK-ee).

The meeting was called after Monday's release of the Inspector General's report that showed unacceptable procedures continuing at the facility...even after nine veterans died there two years ago because of substandard care.
Durbin says the situation is appalling and Shinseki is pledging to correct the problems as soon as possible.

Durbin says Shinseki will try to have a progress report within six weeks.
A national search will soon get underway to find a new director of the Marion VA Medical Center. Warren Hill is leaving the facility for a position in Madison, Wisconsin.
